In research settings, 6-OXO is commonly examined for its interaction with the aromatase enzyme (CYP19A1). The aromatase enzyme catalyzes the conversion of androgens to estrogens in steroidogenic pathways, as observed in in vitro studies.

How does 6-OXO (naturally occurring aromatase inhibitor) work?

In a few research in vitro studies, 6-OXO was found to irreversibly bind to the aromatase enzyme. Therefore, it causes a very substantial reduction in estradiol production. 

Experimental investigations explore androst-4-ene-3,6,17-trione for its capacity to interact with aromatase. Researchers believe that 6-OXO may also influence the enzymatic activity involved in steroid hormone metabolism in preclinical research models. 

Additional research is required to further characterize its biochemical mechanisms and effects in controlled laboratory models.
